How We Conduct Roof Replacement
01
Roof Inspection
A roof inspection evaluates the condition of your roof, identifies existing problems as well as potential future issues, and recommends solutions. Tag Roofing inspections are free and form the basis for an estimate that provides complete information about what needs to be done and how much it will cost.

02
Planning
Nothing happens without the homeowner understanding exactly why it needs to be done, what it costs, and how long it is going to take. We work with you to develop a plan and choose materials that provide you with an optimum solution for your roof, at an affordable price.

03
Perform Replacement
All roof replacement work is performed by Tag Roofing. We arrange for a dumpster at your site to dispose of the old roofing materials. Your new roof typically arrives a day or two before installation. Before we begin, we make sure anything that could get damaged while working on your roof is safely out of the way or covered with tarps. We then tear down the old roof and any associated materials (in some cases, we can install the roof directly on the existing roof), install the underlayment, and then the shingles. As necessary, vents, skylights, and gutters are replaced. Seals are applied where needed, such as around chimneys. Any remaining debris is cleaned up.

04
Final Inspection
The final step is to inspect all work to ensure it was performed properly to the highest quality standards. Our goal for every roof replacement is to deliver long-lasting solutions within the agreed timeframe—earning five-star reviews and referrals from our customers. The details matter!

FAQs
Are you licensed and insured?
Absolutely. You don’t want a fly-by-night contractor that in many cases leaves your roof in worse condition than it was or just takes the down payment and runs. We are happy to provide proof of insurance, licensing, and references.
Does a roof replacement come with any guarantees?
Tag Roofing offers a 2-year guarantee on our workmanship. Manufacturer warranties vary but typically cover up to 25 years on materials, which in some cases is the lifetime of the roof.
How do I know my roof needs a full replacement?
View the section above that lists eight key signs that you need a roof replacement.
How long does a new roof last?
Manufacturer guarantees vary. A properly installed architectural (also known as dimensional or laminate) asphalt shingle roof, the most common type of residential roof in Illinois, has a life expectancy of anywhere from 25 to 30 years.
Here are the life expectancies for some other common types of roof:
- 3-tab/strip asphalt shingles last 15–20 years
- Premium/luxury asphalt shingles last 30–50 years
- Meta roofs last 40-70 years
- Wood (cedar shake shingles) last 20-40 years
- Slate roofs last 75+ years
Note that local weather conditions, particularly extreme weather events and severe storms, can affect how long any roof lasts.Does insurance cover roof replacement as a result of storm damage?
Depends. While most home insurance policies cover storm damage, the extent of damage determines whether insurance pays for roof replacement or just repairs. The general rule of thumb is that if storm damage totals more than 30% of your roof, replacement is recommended. If less than 30%, your insurance may only cover the required repairs.
Tag Roofing helps with insurance damage claims to obtain the best results for you, the homeowner, and expedite the process.
What is your charge for a roof inspection?
Tag Roofing conducts a free in-person roof inspection to determine whether a replacement or repairs is the best course of action.
Please Note: We do not offer free inspections for prospective buyers or sellers.
How long does a roof replacement take?
Typical roof replacement shouldn’t take more than a day or two, including preparation and cleanup. However, some replacements can take a little longer depending on the size and complexity of the roof and the type of materials chosen.
What roofing materials do you use?
We love GAF. They are one of the largest and most well-known roofing manufacturers in North America, specializing in high-quality residential roofing materials. They are best known for their asphalt shingles but also produce a range of roofing products including underlayment and ventilation systems.
How do I choose the best roofing contractor?
It’s an educational process. Generally, you want to get at least three quotes. If you are dealing with professional and reputable contractors, the quotes are likely to all be in the same ballpark. Other considerations include the reputation of the roofing contractor, are they local, customer reviews and referrals, do they show up in branded trucks and outfits, on time for the inspection, and above all, the degree of comfort you feel in working with the company.
